“Proud of everyone”: Ajinkya Rahane lauds entire KKR team despite disappointing end of IPL 2026
A Reflective End at Eden Gardens
The IPL 2026 season concluded for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with a challenging encounter against the Delhi Capitals at the iconic Eden Gardens. Although the match was effectively a dead rubber, with neither side able to shift the composition of the top four in the points table, the contest provided a final opportunity for assessment. Chasing a formidable target of 203 set by the Capitals, KKR struggled to maintain momentum and were eventually bundled out for 163 in 18.4 overs.
The Turning Point
The complexion of the match shifted dramatically due to a pivotal single over bowled by Kuldeep Yadav. Before that moment, Kolkata Knight Riders appeared firmly in the hunt. Captain Ajinkya Rahane was batting with poise and authority, providing hope that KKR could chase down the target. However, once Rahane departed, the middle and lower order failed to provide the necessary support, leading to a swift collapse that allowed the Delhi Capitals to clinch the victory.
Rahane’s Perspective on Resilience
Despite the final result, the atmosphere surrounding the KKR camp remained appreciative of the journey taken throughout the season. During the post-match presentation ceremony, Rahane addressed the difficulties of the surface, noting that the wicket was particularly tricky during the initial stages of the chase. He emphasized that his goal had been to anchor the innings while rotating the strike effectively.
Reflecting on the broader season, Rahane chose to highlight the team’s grit rather than their final league position. “‘Proud of everyone’: Ajinkya Rahane lauds entire KKR team despite disappointing end to the season,” he noted, underscoring the character displayed by the players. Following a series of defeats in the first half of the group stage, KKR’s resurgence kept their playoff hopes alive until the final stages of the tournament, a feat the skipper attributes to the excellent attitude and resilience of his teammates.
Identifying Positives for the Future
Rahane acknowledged that while the team missed out on key moments during the first half of the tournament, the way they rallied thereafter was commendable. “A lot of positives. In the first half of the season, there were key moments where we were losing out, but after that, coming back from there is never easy. IPL is a long tournament with a lot of pressure and high-pressure situations,” he stated. The skipper reiterated that the collective spirit and the positive atmosphere within the dressing room were the driving forces behind their late-season momentum.
Looking Ahead to the Next Chapter
As the IPL 2026 season draws to a close, players are now transitioning toward their respective off-season commitments. Rahane confirmed that the team management intends to stay in communication to begin planning for the future. “I think at the moment the guys have their commitments. We’ll just go off to our homes, probably take some time off, and then obviously we’ll probably connect over calls or Zoom and have discussions moving forward,” he explained.
For the KKR captain, the immediate future involves a return to the roots of the game. After taking a few days of well-deserved rest, Rahane plans to participate in the local league in Mumbai. His enthusiasm for the sport remains undiminished, as he concluded by saying, “For me, just a couple of days off. I’m going to play my local league in Mumbai, which I’m really looking forward to. I’m happy as long as I’m playing cricket.” The KKR journey in 2026 may have ended, but the foundation of character and resilience built by this squad suggests a promising trajectory for the seasons to come.
