A Dominant Display in the Capital

The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) witnessed a masterclass in batting and clinical bowling as Mohammedan Sporting Club secured a resounding 107-run victory over the Legends of Rupganj. The match, hosted at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, highlighted the gulf in form between the two sides as Mohammedan put on a show that will likely serve as a benchmark for the rest of the season.

The Batting Masterclass

After Legends of Rupganj won the toss and opted to field, they perhaps underestimated the resolve of the Mohammedan batting order. The innings was anchored by a spectacular performance from Towhid Hridoy, whose century provided the backbone for the team’s massive total. Hridoy scored a composed 101 off 106 balls, expertly pacing his innings and punishing the loose deliveries when necessary.

Hridoy was not a lone warrior, however. Anamul Haque Bijoy provided the necessary aggression at the top of the order, racing to 71 off just 63 deliveries. This set the tone for Afif Hossain, who continued the momentum with a crucial 70 runs off 70 balls. By the time the 50 overs concluded, Mohammedan had set a daunting target of 339 for 5, a total that required a Herculean effort to chase.

For the Legends of Rupganj, the bowling attack struggled to contain the flow of runs. Mahedi Hasan managed to claim two wickets, while Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each picked up one, but they failed to stem the tide of the Mohammedan batting lineup.

Rupganj’s Flashing Start and Eventual Collapse

Chasing 340, Legends of Rupganj knew they had to start aggressively. Opener Habibur Rahman Soham delivered exactly that, playing an electrifying knock of 59 off just 27 balls. His counter-attacking style briefly threatened to disrupt Mohammedan’s plans, but once he was dismissed, the innings lost its trajectory.

The middle order tried to stabilize, with Mahedi Hasan grinding out 37 off 50 balls and Nasum Ahmed providing a late spark with 45 runs off 40 balls. Despite these individual efforts, the team failed to build significant partnerships. The constant pressure from the Mohammedan bowlers eventually forced errors, leading to the rapid disintegration of the lineup.

Bowling Supremacy

The Mohammedan bowlers were the architects of the final collapse. Nahid Rana led the charge with a fiery spell, finishing with figures of 4 for 71. His pace proved too much for the lower order to handle. He was ably supported by Taibur Rahman, who claimed 3 wickets, and Mohammad Saifuddin, who chipped in with 2 wickets of his own. Taijul Islam rounded off the effort with one wicket, sealing the victory as Rupganj were bundled out for 232 in 34 overs.

Looking Ahead

This 107-run victory is more than just two points on the table for Mohammedan; it is a statement of intent. The team displayed a perfect blend of high-scoring batting and aggressive, disciplined bowling. For the Legends of Rupganj, the result is a reminder of the need for consistency and better partnership management in the middle overs. As the DPL progresses, all eyes will be on whether Mohammedan can maintain this level of excellence or if other teams can find a way to dismantle their current winning formula.
