CSK Sign Macneil Noronha: Replacement for Injured Ramakrishna Ghosh
Strengthening the Ranks: Macneil Noronha Joins CSK
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have officially reinforced their roster ahead of the final leg of the IPL 2026 season. The franchise has signed Karnataka allrounder Macneil Noronha, who joins the side at his base price of INR 30 lakh. This acquisition comes as a necessary measure following the unfortunate injury to Ramakrishna Ghosh, who was sidelined during his debut campaign.
A Rising Talent in Indian Cricket
Macneil Noronha’s inclusion in the CSK setup is well-deserved, given his stellar domestic form. He was recently honored with the prestigious MA Chidambaram Trophy at the BCCI’s annual Naman Awards. This recognition followed his exceptional performance in the 2024-25 Col CK Nayudu Trophy, where he emerged as the tournament’s highest run-getter.
Noronha’s versatility has been a hallmark of his game. He played a pivotal role in the Mangaluru Dragons’ successful campaign to lift the Maharaja Trophy in 2025. During that tournament, he proved his value as a dual-threat player, accumulating 253 runs across ten innings while simultaneously contributing with the ball, claiming ten wickets with his disciplined offspin. Additionally, his experience representing Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy—where he scored 58 runs and picked up a wicket in three T20 appearances—provides him with the necessary exposure to high-pressure domestic cricket.
Addressing the Void Left by Ramakrishna Ghosh
The need for a replacement arose after Ramakrishna Ghosh suffered a foot fracture during his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians on May 2. Despite the limited opportunity, Ghosh showed promise, delivering a respectable spell of 1 for 24 in that match. His absence is a blow to the team, but the arrival of Noronha provides depth to a side that has been fighting an uphill battle with injuries.
A Season of Challenges for Chennai
The 2026 campaign has proven to be a difficult test for the Chennai Super Kings, who have dealt with a revolving door of injuries throughout the season. The team has already had to navigate the absences of Ayush Mhatre, Nathan Ellis, and Khaleel Ahmed, all of whom were ruled out due to various competition-related setbacks. Furthermore, the squad has been noticeably weakened by the absence of former captain MS Dhoni, who is currently recovering from a calf strain.
Despite these significant hurdles, CSK remains in the hunt for a playoff spot. Currently sitting fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches, the team is fighting to secure a top-four finish. With the arrival of a fresh, in-form talent like Noronha, the team management hopes to inject new energy into the playing XI.
Looking Ahead
As the race for the playoffs intensifies, every match becomes a crucial encounter. Chennai Super Kings are now turning their attention toward their upcoming fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants, scheduled for this Friday. The inclusion of Noronha offers the team tactical flexibility, and fans will be eager to see if the young allrounder can make an immediate impact in his debut for the yellow brigade. As the tournament reaches its business end, CSK will look to overcome their injury woes and push for a decisive victory to climb higher in the standings.
