Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has publicly noted that the government did not officially notify the ICC regarding the formation of the new committee, leading to the current urgent visit by international officials to determine the legality and implications of these changes.

The government’s intervention appears to be a direct response to the declining performance of the national men’s cricket team. The pressure from the executive branch, coupled with ongoing public dissatisfaction, prompted the Silva-led committee to hold an internal meeting where they ultimately decided to step down en masse. This mass resignation has paved the way for the government-appointed interim body to take control immediately.
Sri Lanka Cricket issued a formal statement confirming that all office-bearers had resigned, and that this decision had been relayed to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Sports Minister Gamage.
