Damien Wright Returns to Tasmania as Bowling Coach

Damien Wright leaves West Indies role to return to Tasmania as bowling coach, a move that marks his return to his home state after completing his stint as bowling coach with West Indies at the Women’s T20 World Cup. Wright will return to Hobart after his successful stint with the West Indies, where he worked as the bowling coach during the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Wright has a strong connection with Tasmania, having played for the state in their first-ever Sheffield Shield title in 2006-07. He took eight wickets for the match and made 67 with the bat, showcasing his skills as a bowler. As he returns to Tasmania, he will work with the Shield and One-Day Cup squad alongside head coach Jeff Vaughan.

Wright’s Previous Experience

Wright has previously been the head coach of the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL), leading them for four seasons between 2013 and 2017. During his tenure, he guided the team to their first final in 2013-14. His experience and expertise will undoubtedly be an asset to the Tasmania team.

As Wright returns to Tasmania, he expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect with the players and staff. “Cricket Tasmania has always held a special place in my heart,” he said. “The Tigers have played such an important role in my life, both professionally and personally, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return. I look forward to building something special for Tasmania.”

Bradstreet Joins the Hurricanes

Meanwhile, Shawn Bradstreet has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL, taking over the role that was vacated by James Hopes when he was appointed as the Sydney Sixers’ new head coach. Bradstreet has previously worked as a bowling coach for the Sydney Thunder under Trevor Bayliss and New South Wales with Greg Shipperd.

Bradstreet has also worked with Hurricanes head of strategy Ricky Ponting as a bowling coach with Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket. His technical bowling expertise, tactical understanding of the game, and ability to build strong relationships with players and staff make him an excellent fit for the role.

Tasmania and Hurricanes General Manager of High Performance Salliann Beams welcomed Bradstreet to the team, stating, “Bradstreet is highly regarded for his technical bowling expertise, tactical understanding of the game, and his ability to build strong relationships with players and staff.”
